Toggle Google apps/Vault auto-assign license setting

As the super administrator in Google apps you can toggle the auto-assign setting for various Google apps services.

  1. Log into admin.google.com and click on Billing
  2. In here you will see a list of various Google services that exist on your domain (Google apps for Work/Edu/etc..., Google Apps Vault, and so on)
  3. Click the 3 dots located to the far right of the service in question and click Manage licenses
    1. If you see 3 tabs, Assigned users, Unassigned users and Manage Licenses, then auto-assign is turned off
      1. Click on the Manage Licenses tab, check the box for "Auto-assign the following license to all currently unassigned users and users subsequently created" and click Save Changes at the bottom left
      2. Any available licenses for that service will be assigned to any users who do not have it on their account. Any increases to the license cap by your reseller will take affect immediately and assign the additional available licenses to your users
    2. If you only have the Manage Licenses tab, then auto-assign is turned on
      1. Simply uncheck the box next to "Auto-assign the following license to all currently unassigned users and users subsequently created" and click Save Changes at the bottom left
      2. You can now manually add and remove licenses from users by using the Assigned users and Unassigned users tabs. You may need to refresh this page to see the new tabs appear
