Setup Gmail in Outlook with IMAP

In order to configure Gmail IMAP sync in Outlook you will need to ensure IMAP is enabled on your Gmail account. To check click here and follow the steps provided.

Once you have IMAP enabled you can configured Outlook to sync your emails from Gmail. Please note that IMAP only allows the syncing of mail. Contacts and calendars are not synced.


Outlook 2010 and 2013

To begin adding your Gmail account, click the File tab.

On the Account Information screen, click Add Account.

Proceed to step 2 below


Outlook 2003 - 2007:

  1. Open Outlook, Click Tools → Account Settings

  2. Click the New button under the E-mail tab.

  3. Select the “Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP” option and hit next.

  4. Select the checkbox for “Manually configure server settings.”

  5. Now select “Internet E-mail”

  6. Add requested information in the following page:

    1. Note: for Gmail Apps accounts, you’ll need to put in your full email address wherever you see an above. For instance, if your account was you would put that in the E-mail address field as well as the User Name field.

  7. Click on the “More Settings” button and find the Outgoing Server tab, where you’ll need to check the box for “My outgoing server requires authentication”

  8. Now choose the Advanced tab, and enter the following values (Very important)

    1. Incoming Server: 993

    2. Incoming Server encrypted connection: SSL

    3. Outgoing Server: 587

    4. Outgoing Server encrypted connection: TLS

  9. Once you have entered this information click Ok.

  10. You should now be back at the original page where you entered your login information. You can click the Test Account Settings button to make sure everything is going to work.

  11. If all goes well, you should see a success message.

  12. You should now see your email account show up on the left side of Outlook with all your email folders syncing your emails.
