Set up sending from another email account

Sending mail from another email address

  1. Click on the gear icon on the top right corner and go to Settings

  2. Click on the Accounts and Import tab
  3. Next to “Send Mail as”, Click on “Add another email address you own”
  4. A new window will pop up prompting for the email account you would like to add

  5. You can specify if you want to “Treat as an alias” or “Specify a different reply-to address”

IMPORTANT: Typically you would not treat the address as an alias if you plan to only reply as the secondary email address occasionally

More information on this alias option can be found here

  6. Click “Next Step”
  7. If you get this window on the next page, you will want to ensure the following fields are filled out, otherwise skip to step 9:

    SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
Username: Your Google/Gmail email address you want to send as
Password: The password for the email address you entered above

  8. Once filled out click Add account

  9. Click on “Send Verification”. This will send a verification email to the address listed so you can authenticate using it as your own:

If the email address you're setting up belongs to an email distribution group, you should receive the verification email directly in you inbox

If the email address belongs to another email account you own you will need to log into the email account you want to send as

  10. Locate the message from Google. Open it and and either click the link contained in the message or enter the confirmation code in the Accounts section of your Google Apps email settings to verify the email address

  11. OPTIONAL: Once the address is verified with Google you can make it your default if you wish to send from it every time

To do this make your way back to the Accounts tab in Gmail (steps 1 and 2) and click "make default" to the right of the new email address you want to send as.

Now when you create or reply to an email in Gmail it will automatically select the alternative email address you added to your account.
