How to forward mail from a Gmail account

You can forward emails from your Google Apps or Gmail account to another account you own.

  1. Log into the account you wish to forward emails from.
  2. From your Gmail inbox click the gear icon in the upper right, then select Settings.

  3. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab, then click Add a forwarding address.

  4. Enter the email address you would like to forward to and click Next, then click Proceed and OK at the next prompts.

  5. A verification email will be sent to the receiving email address you entered in step 4.  Sign into the receiving email account, open the verification email, and click the link to verify the account.

  6. Sign back into the forwarding Gmail account and go to the forwarding settings from steps 2 and 3.

  7. Select the Forward a copy of incoming mail to option.  Click Save Changes at the bottom.

  8. Done!

You also can set up filters to forward messages that meet specific criteria. You can create 20 filters that forward to other addresses. You can maximize your filtered forwarding by combining filters that send to the same address. Please refer to the filtering information.

If you no longer want to auto-forward your mail, follow these instructions:

  1. Click the gear icon in the upper right, then select Settings.

  2. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab, or if you use Google Apps, you might have a Forwarding tab instead.

  3. In the "Forwarding" section, select the Disable forwarding radio button.

  4. Click the first drop-down menu in the "Forwarding" section and check for any forwards created by filtering.
